Locating the Burning Feather
Follow the Smoke!
Look for a tall column of black smoke rising from the ground. This marks the exact location where the Rainbow Feather has landed.
Pro Tip: Open your map (M key) to see the smoke plume from above. It appears as a dark marker that makes navigation much easier.
What You'll See:
- 1.A Rainbow Feather on the ground, engulfed in flames
- 2.Fire particles and smoke effects surrounding it
- 3.You cannot pick it up while it's burning
Extinguishing the Flames
Use Water Gun!
Step-by-Step:
- Transform into Squirtle (press T and select Squirtle)
- Approach the burning feather
- Aim at the flames
- Use Water Gun ability (default: Left Click)
- Keep spraying until all flames are extinguished

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How often does Ho-Oh appear?
Ho-Oh appears approximately once every 2-3 in-game days. The spawn is random, but more frequent during clear weather. Some players report seeing it multiple times per real-world day if they play for extended sessions.
Can I miss the feather if I don't reach it in time?
No! The Rainbow Feather will stay on the ground indefinitely. The smoke plume remains visible for about 10 minutes, but even after it disappears, the feather will still be there. You can even save your game, quit, and come back later.
What if I don't have Squirtle unlocked yet?
You must have Squirtle's Water Gun ability to extinguish the flames. If you haven't unlocked it yet, the feather will remain burning until you do. Squirtle is unlocked early in the game by completing the "Beach Cleanup" quest in Bleak Beach.
Can I catch Ho-Oh?
No, Ho-Oh cannot be caught in the base game. It only appears to drop Rainbow Feathers. However, there are rumors of a post-game quest that may allow you to encounter it properly. This has not been confirmed by the developers.
Is there a limit to how many feathers I can collect?
No limit! You can collect as many Rainbow Feathers as Ho-Oh drops. However, after obtaining all 6 unique furniture pieces from Gimmighoul, you'll only receive the 200 Life Coins per feather (which is still excellent value).
Can multiple feathers spawn at once?
Only one Rainbow Feather can exist in the world at a time. If you haven't collected the previous feather, Ho-Oh won't drop a new one. Make sure to collect and trade each feather before the next Ho-Oh event.
